If the blacklight stays on for only a few seconds, the backlight timeout setting might need configuring in the BIOS. However, I did find this in the HP knowledge base: I've looked at the user guide for your laptop and it only tells you how to turn on and off the backlight but makes no mention of a timeout. It's a power saving feature to preserve the battery life for laptops, you can use F8 button to switch off back light when you use the laptop in bright surroundings, you have to press Fn+F8 to switch off/on.Windows 10 Backlit Keyboard Timing Setting (?) After that, there should be an option called "Keyboard Backlight Timeout" in your BIOS settings which should be enabled by default.
